Funeral service for Mrs. Almeta “Depha” Jackson Caldwell will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, December 6, 2019 at J. O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 S. Johns St., Florence. Interment will follow in Garden of Rest, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC. Almeta, the daughter of the late Mingo and Almeta Bee Jackson was born April 21, 1938 in Darlington, South Carolina. She entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 29, 2019 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, South Carolina. At an early age, Almeta relocated to Winston Salem, North Carolina, where she attended the Public Schools in Forsyth County. Almeta was a member of Saint Peter World Outreach Ministry in Wilson Salem, North Carolina. Almeta was employed at Winston Salem State University as a House Technician. She volunteered with the Organization for the Blind. Almeta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Caldwell; two sons, Alphonso “Pete” Jackson and Wilbur “Ricky” James Jackson; and one grandson, Lamont Jackson. Almeta leaves to cherish her precious memories: one sister, Julia Bell Mack of Florence, South Carolina; one brother, Mingo (Mary Ann) Jackson, Jr. of Wilmington, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Olivia Jackson and Lillian Jackson both of Florence, South Carolina; a host of nephews; nieces; other relatives; extended church family of Winston Salem, North Carolina; and special friends, Betty Hash and Vernetta Griggs of Winston Salem, North Carolina.
