Aza Lee H. Williams

Mrs. Aza Lee Hines-Williams began her earthly journey on January 16, 1959, in Effingham, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Mr. John Albert Hines Sr. and Mrs. Annie Lee Hines. Aza Lee peacefully transitioned from earth to glory at home with family on Thursday morning, February 20th, 2025, at the age of 66.

Aza Lee was a 1977 graduate of Hannah-Pamplico High School. She later attended and graduated from South Carolina State College in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. After graduation, she began teaching at Batesburg-Leesville Middle School as a physical education/health teacher as well as a basketball coach until she retired in 2009. She also coached softball at the Lexington County Recreation Center.

Aza Lee was a former member of Mount Rona Baptist Church. After marriage she became a watch care member of Wesley Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Batesburg, South Carolina. Later, guided by the Holy Spirit she joined Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina where she served in the Children’s Church Ministry, College Scholarship Committee, and Youth Committee until her health failed.

Aza Lee was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-two years, Glenn Edward Williams; her parents, John Albert Hines Sr. and Annie Lee Hines; and a cousin raised in the home like a sister, Ruby Graham.

Those left to cherish her loving and precious memories include: one son, Avery D. Williams of Clearwater, South Carolina; one daughter, Aleeza D. Williams of the home; four grandchildren, A’nylah Robinson, Averi Williams, Ayden Williams, and Zoë Dunbar; two older brothers, John Albert (Mary) Hines and James Wardell (Annie Mae) Hines both of Effingham, South Carolina; a sister, Lucinda A Hines of Effingham, South Carolina; two best friends, Vanessa E. Stephens of Westbury, New York and Robin Edwards of Pamplico, South Carolina; two godchildren, Bernardo Sellers of Georgia and Maliayah Edmond of Greenville, South Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, students and friends who will miss her dearly.
