Memorial Service for Mr. Billy T. Norwood, a Florence, SC native, will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4901 16th St., NW, Washington, DC 20011, on Saturday, April 15, at 10:30 a.m. (Zoom: bit.ly/dc3zoom).
Billy was the son of Mrs. Mildred Jones Norwood and Mr. James H. Norwood.
After 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, Billy served as a Criminal Investigator with the Office of the Inspector General , U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Then he became the Director of Security and Safety Services at Howard University in Washington, DC. Upon retirement, Billy was appointed Chief of the District of Columbia Protective Services Police. Billy was a Charter Member and Life Member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) and several other professional organizations.
Billy is survived by his loving wife, Maria Elena Norwood; his sister, Carolyn V. Norwood; one granddaughter, Leah Boyd; four nephews, James (Josiellia) Williams, Gregory (Sarah) Williams, Thomas (Nancy) Williams, Billy (Melissa) Williams; and a host of other relatives, friends, and former colleagues.
