Mr. Calvin A. Wilson, son of the late Elder Jesse Wilson and Mrs. Viola O’Bryant Wilson was born July 2, 1940, in Philadelphia, PA. He was called into eternal rest on Thursday July 21, 2022, after an extended illness.
He was a graduate of Wilson High School class of 1958 and attended Morehouse College his freshman year. He then transferred to San Diego State University where he majored in Psychology. He later served his country in the U.S. Army as a clinical psychologist. After leaving the Army in 1970, he served the Florence community as an entrepreneur, being the first black Exxon service station owner. He was a fuel oil distributor and later retired from Circuit City.
Calvin loved the Lord; he was a faithful member of New Harvest Presbyterian Church and was also actively involved in the New Harmony Presbytery.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Ms. Yahkiah T. Wilson, and four sisters: Mrs. Helen W. Shade, Mrs. Ruby W. Hines, Mrs Ethel W. Mack, and Mrs. Inez W. Eaddy.
Calvin leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 51 years, Mrs. Pontheola E. Wilson; children: Ms. Madeline Wilson, Pittsburgh, PA, Mr. Calvin Wilson, II, Prince Frederick MD, Mr. Carlos (Darla) Wilson Columbia, S.C. and Mrs. Chrystal W. (Christopher) Lewis Florence, SC; two sisters: Mrs. Marrian (Joe Jr.) Hannah, Effingham, SC and Ms. Juanita W. Scott, Florence, SC; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; sisters in love: Mrs. Vivian E. (William) McFadden, Florence, SC, Mrs. Alger E. (Mose) Bradford, Philadelphia, PA, Mrs Vernal E. (Clayton) Hazelton, Marietta, GA, Mrs. Detroit E. (Robert) Weeks, Charlotte, NC, Mrs. Ronnie E. (Paul) Hagan, Slidell, LA, Ms. Pamela E. Henry, Columbia, SC; brothers in love: Mr. Carl (Gloria) Edwards Jr., Lithonia, GA, Mr. Jervey D.(Aline) Edwards, Bronx, NY, Mr. Craig L. Edwards, Olanta, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
