Mr. Charlie Phillips, son of the late Jacob and Thelma Wells Fulton and the late Henry and Viola Phillips was born in Hudson County, New Jersey on March 26, 1946. He departed this earthly life on Monday, December 19, 2022, at Medical University of South Carolina Hospital (MUSC) of Florence.
Charlie received his formal education in Florence, South Carolina at Holmes Elementary School.
Charlie was a member of Cumberland United Methodist Church.
Charlie was a brick mason tender for Woodrow Lyde & Son Company.
Charlie was a pillar in the East Florence Community. He enjoyed mentoring younger generations in the community on sports and bestowing his wisdom on anyone he encountered. Charlie was a friend and companion to many and shared his profound love for safety, generosity, and care within the community. He was often heard saying; “A friend is a person who will help you” and “The church is in your heart and not a building.” Charlie loved all of his family and friends dearly and made sure they knew that each and every day.
In addition to his parents; Charlie was preceded in death by two brothers, James Eugene Fulton and Jacob Fulton, II.
Charlie leaves to cherish his loving memories: two sisters, Cornelia Louise Frierson of Florence, South Carolina and Ernestine Charlton of Los Angeles, California; a special nephew, Karl P. “Boo” Frierson, II of Lindau, Germany: a special niece, Keplyn “Kippie”S. Frierson of Florence, South Carolina; a grandnephew, Cornelius “Neil “Frierson of Florence, South Carolina; a grandniece, Karla Frierson of Florence, South Carolina; three special friends, Woodrow Lyde, Lonnie Davis, and Milton Phillips; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, East Florence Community Family, and friends.
Family visitation will be held 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM Wednesday January 4, 2023 - Friday January 6, 2023, at the home of his sister, Cornelia Louise Frierson. 1316 Tallulah Street, Florence, South Carolina 29506 in the Williams Height Community.
