With deep love and gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the homegoing of Reverend Christine Brown Harrison affectionately known as Yaya, who earned her wings on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
Born in Pamplico, South Carolina on March 2, 1941, Reverend Christine Harrison was the cherished daughter of the late Reverend Walter Brown and Susan Ella Canteen Brown.
She was raised with strong values of faith, service, and compassion, and received her early education through the public schools of Florence, South Carolina. Blessed with a soul-stirring voice, she ministered through song on numerous choirs and with thelegendary Sensational Brown Sisters and Mother.
A devoted woman of God, she served faithfully in several churches throughout her life, including Majority, Open Door, and Ebenezer International Outreach Ministries where she served as Assistant Pastor. Her faith was her foundation, and she ministered not only through words but through a life of service and love.
Her dedication extended beyond the pulpit. She was employed by Carolina Health Care, where her nurturing spirit touched many lives. She also generously gave her time as the head chef at the Manna House, feeding both the body and soul of countless individuals.Known for her giving heart and tireless service with Habitat for Humanity, Christine acquired many dear friends and truly touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in the hearts of her siblings, Earnestine Brown Rogers (twin), Robert Brown, and Ola Mae Vernell Brown Backus of Florence, SC. Her children, Curtis (Rochelle) Harrison, Jimmy (Terri) Harrison of Winston Salem, NC, Wanda Harrison of Florence, SC, Christopher (Melanie) Harrison of Clemmons, NC, Rosemary (Devon) Facey of Winston Salem, NC, and Reeshemah (Wendell) Harrison of Florence, SC. Her grandchildren, Marquita Harrison, Quanteshia Harrison, who was lovingly raised by Yaya, Desmond Harrison, Kenneth Benjamin III, Latisha Benjamin, Dr. Heather Harrison, Ashley Harrison, Crystal Benjamin, Christina Harrison, and Maxwell Harrison; fourteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, including special niece Yvonne Brown Burgess, all of whom will cherish her memory deeply. Preceded in death by her son, Antonio Harrison and great grandson Zy’Mir Benjamin. Her siblings Mary Gainey, Rebecca Graham, I John Brown, Isaac Brown, Leanna Johnson, Emma Gladys, Louise Montgomery, Bessie Mae Davis, Junior Brown, and Alease Brown.
Reverend Christine Brown Harrison was a beacon of light, a humble servant, and a faithful steward of God’s love. Though she has departed this earthly life, her spirit lives on in the many lives she so beautifully blessed.
Family will receive friends at the home from 7PM-9PM , 408 E. Tierra Drive, Florence.
