Mr. Earvin Hamilton, Sr., of Thomson, Georgia and formerly of Florence, South Carolina was born May 31, 1934 to the late Eddie Lee Hamilton, Sr. and the late Alberta McCord Hamilton in Warren County, Georgia. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, February 17, 2024.
Earvin was united in holy matrimony in 1962 to the late Muriel Brown Hamilton.
He was affectionately known as “Georgia Boy” around the Florence area. He was raised in rural Warren County, GA. His first job was at Kingsley Mill (now Milliken & Co.) in Thomson, GA. After relocating to Florence, SC, he was employed as a Welder at Vulcraft (a division of Nucor Corporation) from 1968 to 1994 before he retired.
Earvin was a member of Cumberland United Methodist Church in Florence, SC.
He often sang gospel songs (called them spirituals). One of the songs he often sang was “A Charge to Keep I Have”. He professed his faith and trust in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed sitting on the front porch in the fresh air. Blessed with a green thumb, he also liked to plant trees and flowers. Earvin liked to visit and talk to people; he never met a stranger.
As he got older, his routine was visiting his wife’s grave, ride by his in-laws home, then to Cumberland United Methodist Church, and eventually back home. The United Methodist Men of Cumberland U.M.C. adopted him as one of their own, and invited him to their events.
In addition to his parents, Earvin was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel; sons, Richard Willingham, and unnamed (stillborn); six brothers, Eddie Lee (Ella) Hamilton, Jr., John Curtis Hamilton, Casper Hamilton, Willie J. Hamilton, Odell Hamilton, and Othello Hamilton; six sisters, Dorothy, Lorene, Mary E., Alvonia, Azelene, and Eleanor.
He was the last surviving child of Eddie Lee Sr. and Alberta Hamilton.
Earvin leaves to cherish seven children: one son of the home, Earvin (Tara) Hamilton, Jr. of Savannah, Georgia, three sons Moses (Deborah) Cobb, Sr. of Thomson, GA, Ronnie (Lisa) Collins of Thomson, GA, and Andrew (Catherine) Collins of Thomson, GA; three daughters, to include a special daughter and caregiver, Renea (LC, Jr.) Brown of Thomson, GA, Earvenia (Donald) Brooks of Decatur, GA and Veronica Griffin of Brunswick, GA; two sisters-in-law, Doretha Hamilton and Addie Hamilton both of Thomson, GA; numerous grand and great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He also had three special friends, Dorothy Hines and Otto Ham, and his wife’s cousin Curtis Cato, all of Florence, SC.
Please keep the family of Earvin Hamilton, Sr. in your thoughts and prayers.
