Ernest Gibbs, Sr.

Mr. Ernest Gibbs, Sr., was born August 31, 1941, in Pamplico, South Carolina to the late Hosea and Mary Eliza Gibbs. He was the youngest son of nine children. He graduated from Wilson High School and attended South Carolina State College. Ernest gave his life to Christ at a young age and was a faithful member of Greater Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church his entire life. He served in various capacities within the church. He was a member of the Stewart Board, Chairman of the Trustee Board, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and member of other church organizations. Ernest was a member of the  King Solomon #356, where he served as the Worshipful Master and received the honor of Master of the year, Silver Star Chapter #251 OES Past Patron and also a member of the Pee Dee Chapter #32 Holy Royal Arch Masonry.

In 1963, Ernest married Gwendolyn Cusaac, who became his loving and devoted wife of 59 years and 8 months. They were blessed from this union with five children. He was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. Throughout his life he provided for his family as a farmer and his business Gibbs Home Maintenance.

Ernest studied God’s word and enjoyed discussing the scripture with everyone. He held weekly prayer time with his immediate family. His prayer life was consistent and always included his children and wife. He never met a stranger and would always leave you with a laugh or smile.

Ernest was preceded in death by several siblings: brothers: Billy, Charlie and Hosea, Jr. “Jeff” and four sisters: Meada “Bae”, Elma “Hunks”, Della, and Maggie.
