Sister Harriett Jean Waters was born in Florence County, South Carolina on August 12, 1968. She was born to the late Buford L. and Margaret H. Waters. She was called from earthly servanthood to the Kingdom on Monday July 29, 2024.
"Jeannie" as she was affectionately called, was educated in the Florence County Public Schools and was a proud 1986 graduate of Wilson High School where she served as a proud member of the Marching Band. After graduating, she enrolled in Limestone College, majoring in Early Childhood Education; however, due to personal circumstances she changed direction and decided to enter the workforce to provide stability for her children. She gained employment at the Florence County Disabilities and Special Needs Board.
Church History
Harriett Jean was a lifelong and faithful member of Southern Calvary Baptist Church. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a very young age and was baptized by her pastor, Reverend, Dr. John McKenny. She served in various capacities to include the choir, hospitality and wherever needed. She would often coordinate and lead different activities and programs at the church and was famously known for her delicious "pasta salad" which was requested at every church event. Her last event was the church’s fish fry which was held just a few weeks ago.
Work History
Before succumbing to her death, Harriett was employed with the South Carolina Disabilities and Special Needs Board. She enjoyed working with the consumers there, seeing it as a part of her ministry and not just a job. She often told stories of how the consumers inspired her to keep going and not give up during difficult times. Before working with the SCDSNB, she spent several years working as a childcare worker at South Florence Baptist Church and other local childcare facilities. She even helped her late sister, Carol Lashawn with Shawn’s Babies Daycare. Before the passing of Myasia, her youngest daughter, the mother daughter team aspired to open a daycare and homework center.
Family
Harriett Jean was a devoted mother, daughter, sister and friend. She exemplified excellence, strength and servanthood. She had the sweetest personality, which gave her the ability to brighten up any room. She would genuinely help anyone she could. She was known to give in abundance, encourage in strength, and discipline in love. She was the epitome of the Proverbs 31 Woman. Her grandchildren were her heart strings. Aside from spending time with her family and friends, Jeannie’s hobbies included participating with her Koby Prayer Group, Sunshine Savings Club meetings and playing bingo.
In addition to her parents, Harriett was preceded in death by her daughter, Myasia G. Gregg; and three sisters, Kimberly D. Waters, Tonya A. Williams, and Carol L. McCoy- Woodbury.
