Mr. James Henicks Jr. (Jimmy) was born on July 20, 1949, to the late James Sr and Willie Mae Henicks of Florence, South Carolina. He departed this life on Friday, August 2, 2024, at his home, in Riverdale, Georgia..
Mr. James was educated in the public schools of Florence, South Carolina, where he graduated from Wilson High School in 1968. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as a Sergeant for four years. Jimmy, as he was best known, went on to further his education at the University of Miami, in Coral Gables, Florida, where he received his Bachelor degree in Fine Arts. He also attended Clark Atlanta University of Atlanta, Georgia, where he received his Master degree.
Looking to spread his wings, Jimmy moved to Atlanta, Georgia, as a young man. He taught as an Art instructor in the Fulton County public schools and later gained employment at the Hapeville, Georgia, United States Postal Office as a Postal worker, until his retirement.
Jimmy was a handsome, smooth-talking, laid-back type of guy with a slick sense of humor that captured everyone’s attention. He was a very talented and gifted artist who loved traveling and exploring different cultures. Jimmy lived and embraced the eyes of an artist.
Preceding him in death are his parents; one sister, Gloria Jean Harrison; and two nieces, Angela King and Kimberly Graham-Clark.
He leaves his cherished memories to: a daughter, Kosha; one grandson, Tracie Campbell; and a great-grandchild, Kacie Campbell all of Houston, Texas; four siblings, Geraldine (Eddie) Walston, Hermenia King, Wilhelmena (Dwight) Talton all of Florence, South Carolina and Nadine (Melvin) Smith of Darlington, South Carolina; four aunts, Mable Gaither of Florence, South Carolina, Ethel Mae Henicks of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Elizabeth Kirven and Gladys Alexander Smoot both of Richmond, Virginia; two nieces, Morrisa Robinson of Florence, South Carolina and Renae King of San Jose California; two nephews, KC Talton of Florence, South Carolina and Craig Scott of Bronx, New York; a special cousin, Virginia Harrison of Alpharetta, Georgia; and a host of beloved great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends; and a special thanks to a long-time neighbor and friend, Linda Bolton of Riverdale, Georgia.
