Joan Davis

Joan was born on June 24, 1947 in Pamplico, SC. She was the daughter of the late Willie and Herline Judge Davis. She was educated in Florence County public schools at Gibbs High School but graduated in 1966 from Lincoln High School, Jersey City, New Jersey.

Joan was united in holy matrimony in 1966 to Arthur Lee, Jr. This union was blessed with three loving girls Becky Davis, Deborah Lee and Tina Cain. In 1986, she remarried her ex-husband and best friend James Roger Thompson.

Joan was employed at Jewish Hospital in Jersey City, New Jersey. Joan relocated to Pamplico, South Carolina in 1989 with her grandchildren Alexander “Kenny” Lee and Andrea “Karen” Lee. Joan started working at South Carolina Disability and Special Needs (Pee Dee Center) in Florence, South Carolina. After years of working at Disability and Special Needs, she started working at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina where she retired in 2012.

Joan accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a faithful member of Mill Branch African Methodist Episcopal Church where she sang on the choir.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Deborah Lee and Tina Cain; sister, Azalee Smith; brothers, James Davis, Cleveland Davis and john Henry Davis; one great-grandchild, Camille Ford.

She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Becky Davis of Pamplico, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Andrea “Karen” (Kheris) Mumford of Florence, South Carolina, Alexander “Kenny” (Chanelle) Lee of Kansas City, Missouri, Brianna Cain of Pamplico, South Carolina, and Christina (Antwan) Ford of Florence, South Carolina; three great-grandchildren, Zavion Ford, Maverick Lee and Aubrey Ford; one sister, Ella Mae (Carl) Cowherd of Sumter, South Carolina; three brothers, Rev. Melvin (Kay) Davis of Charleston, West Virginia, Lawrence (Sofia) Davis of Sumter, South Carolina and Tony Davis of Eugene, Oregon; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, church families and friends.

The family will receive friends 5PM-8PM, Tuesday, April 25th - Friday, April 28th, 2023 at 2469 Willow Grove Rd., Pamplico.
