Mrs. Julia Bell Jackson Mack was born to the late Mingo and Almeta Jackson on September 13, 1930, in Florence County, South Carolina. She was called into eternal rest at her home on Sunday, January 14, 2024.
Julia attended schools in the Florence County School System. Her life’s work was caregiving. In addition to caring for many family members, she worked at Honorage Nursing Home and for Dr. Whitehead and his family.
She has been a faithful member of Central Missionary Baptist Church for most of her life, serving on the choir and as mother of the church for many years. She also was a member of the Mount Pisgah Eastern Star Chapter #318 Sunbeams.
Julia loved listening to gospel music, fishing, gardening and cooking. She was known for feeding anyone who entered her home. She was a people person who was full of wisdom. She also loved Tootsie Rolls, which her kids and grandkids would bring her as a treat.
She married the late Waymon Mack, Sr., in April of 1947. They were married for 46 years until his passing in 1993. They had seven children, three of whom preceded her in death: Isaac Mack, Deacon Charlie Mack and Waymon Mack, Jr.
Julia leaves behind to cherish her memories: her sons, Entran “Joe” Mack, Sr. of Florence, South Carolina and Carolina Mack (companion Gwendolyn York) of Wilmington, North Carolina; her daughters, Sylvia Williams and Elzena “Helen” Hart both of Florence; one niece she raised as a daughter, Steria Mickens of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; brothers, Mingo Jackson, of Wilmington, North Carolina, Waymon (Frances) Johnson of Florence, South Carolina and William (Dorothy) Johnson of Orangeburg, South Carolina; a brother-in-law, Willie Hines of Florence, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Olivia Jackson and Lillian Jackson both of Florence, South Carolina; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; a special extended family, Dr. Alva and Ida Whitehead of Darlington, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends daily from 4PM -7PM at the home, 1016 Royal Street, Florence, SC.
