Mr. King Edward “BaBa” Gregg was born November 24, 1949, to the late John Henry Gregg, Sr. and Azalee Cain Gregg in Florence, South Carolina. He peacefully made his transition into eternal rest on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.
King affectionately known as ”BaBa” was a proud Class of 1970 graduate from Wilson High School located in Florence, South Carolina. He was employed at numerous jobs around Florence County, including his last place of employment being I H Services at Florence-Darlington Technical College.
On July 31, 1971, King was joined in marriage to his beautiful bride, Mildred, and was blessed with five children.
King enjoyed spending time with his family and wife. Huge family gatherings were his favorite. As a hobby, King’s Royal Cuts was born due to his passion for landscaping. He was the true definition of the person who would give you the shirt off his back and last dollar to his name.
At an early age, King joined Greater Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church. He served on the Usher Board, as a Trustee, as the Church Sexton and as the Church Lawn Care Technician. He was most known as Greater Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church Parking Lot Security.
King was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry, Sr. and Azalee Cain Gregg; a daughter, Artesia Harrison; two sisters, Mary Cain and Carolyn Isaiah; three brothers, John Gregg, Jr., Howard Gregg and James Gregg; his father and mother-in-law, David and Gladys Egleton; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
King leaves to cherish his ever-lasting precious memories: his wife, Mildred Gregg of the home; three daughters, Wilhelmenia “Pam” Knox (Angelo James) of Florence, South Carolina, Shannah (Tideaus) Dixon of Florence, South Carolina and Barbara Gregg (Kayira McGill) of Florence, South Carolina; one son, Tommy Gregg (Shena Johnson) of Florence, South Carolina; one sister, Dolly Myers of Florence, South Carolina; one brother, Alphonso Gregg of Florence, South Carolina; twenty grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; one aunt, Ida Mae Gregg of Virginia; one brother-in-law, Willie (Janice) Egleton of Florence, South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Wilhelmina Johnson of Florence, South Carolina; one goddaughter, Francine McCullum of Denver, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
The family will receive friends at 3114 Tall Oaks Drive, Florence.
