 Lonnie Jordan Wright was born in Darlington County on January 5, 1949, the oldest child of the late Nathan Wright, Sr. and the late Elouise Jordan Wright. He was raised by his grandparents, the late Norman and the late Rachel Alford Jordan as their own son. He transitioned into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.

His educational pilgrimage began at Alexander Elementary School that was located in the Wilson Cross Road Community. He was a graduate of Mayo High School Class of 1967, where he played the trombone on the Mayo Golden Bears Band.

In 1969, he was drafted into the United States Marines Corps, where he served during the Vietnam War, Agent Orange Era and Camp LeJeune.

Upon his return he joined the work force as a Supervisor Machine Expeditor of Dixie Cup known as Georgia Pacific for 32 years where he retired in 2004. 

Lonnie was a faithful employee of Smith Funeral Home of Florence where he took great pride in driving the hearse on funerals. 

The genesis of Lonnie’s spiritual foundation began in his youth as a member of Providence African Methodist Episcopal Church, in Darlington, South Carolina which has now changed to Providence United Methodist Church of Darlington, South Carolina. He later joined Snow Hill Baptist Church and Majority Missionary Baptist Church in Florence, South Carolina where he served faithfully as a Trustee and Choir member.

He was a member of West Temple Masonic Lodge #419, Prince Hall Affiliated in Florence, South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; three siblings, Nathan Wright Jr., Virginia W. Thompson and Nathaniel D. Wright; and an uncle, Alfred Smith.

He married the late former Delores Dockery and two children were born to this marriage, Christopher Wright of Killen, Texas and Jovonne Wright McClain of Florence, South Carolina; and a daughter, Ebony Jett of Quinby, South Carolina.

On July 26, 1998, he married Edna Robinson Wright. 

He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his wife of 25 years Edna Robinson Wright; three children, Christopher, Jovonne and Ebony; five grandchildren, Kirsten Jett, Zy’Daryus Tedder, Millecent Jackson, Shanda (Ruby) Murray and Daneisha Dubose; three great-grandchildren, Sean Murray, Atum Rebholz and Aliya Rebholz; one sister, Lelia Mae Wright of Hartsville, South Carolina; two uncles, Franklin (Louise) Jordan of Darlington, South Carolina and Norman (Brenda) Jordan of Snellville, Georgia; two aunts, Ruby Smith of New Jersey and Rebecca Wright Young of New York; in-laws, Annie Mae Fred and Pearline Dockery both of Florence, South Carolina, Almerta Dockery Johnson of Georgia, Barbara Dockery of California, Nathaniel Dockery of Baltimore, Maryland, Janice Robinson, Evelyn R. Graham and Felicia Smith (Commodore) Charles all of Florence, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive friends 4PM-8PM daily at the home, 3717 Winlark Drive, Florence.
