Mrs. Mattie Mae Davis Woodberry was born May 3, 1926, in Poston, South Carolina to the late Douglas Woodberry and the late Georgianna Davis. At the age of 98, her destiny ended on Friday, August 23, 2024, in Florence County.

Mrs. Mattie accepted Christ as her Savior and loved to do His work. She leaves a place no one will be able to fill. She loved and cared very much for her children and stood by them to help all she could.

Mrs. Mattie joined Heyward Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Johnsonville, South Carolina, at an early age and later in life, she joined Saint Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church also located in Johnsonville, South Carolina. She served in many capacities of the church such as: a member of the Senior Choir, President of the Junior Chorus Missionary and as a Class Leader. 

Mrs. Mattie also was a member of Saint Luke Eastern Star Chapter #116 and worked faithfully for over 50 years. She loved to sing and sang with various groups; the Gospel Highlights of Johnsonville, South Carolina and the Starlight Gospel Singers of Brooklyn, New York.

Mrs. Mattie was married to the late Willie E. Woodberry, and they were blessed with 11 children.

Mrs. Mattie was employed with White Swan Cleaners, One Hour Martinizing Cleaners and Chancey Dry Cleaners.

Mrs. Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas Woodberry and Georgianna Davis; her husband, Willie E. Woodberry; four sons, David, Ezekiel, Jonathan and Isaiah Woodberry; one daughter, Irene; one grandson, Dwayne Belin; two granddaughters, Carmon White and Cathy E. Boatwright; one great grandson, Ty Belin; one son-in-law, Delonza Hyman; six sisters, Mamie Grant, Inez Davis, Hattie Brown, Mildred Davis, Louise Kelly,Hattie V. Davis; a niece raised as a sister, Anna Mack Bartell; and one brother, Shellie Davis.

Mrs. Mattie leaves to cherish her precious memories: three daughters, Ila Mae Hyman of Florence, South Carolina, Willie Woodberry of Florence, South Carolina and Oneda (Mike) Stephen of New York; three sons, Efell Woodberry of New York, Jerome (Monica) Woodberry of Johnsonville, South Carolina and Howard Davis of New York; 40 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; 23 great greatgrandchildren; three daughters-in-law, Jennette, Annie Ruth and Donnie Woodberry; and a host of nieces, grandnieces, a grandnephew, two sons and daughters in Christ, Reverend Joshua & Mrs. Bessie Dupree and Reverend Dr. Janice & Mr. Danny McMillian, other relatives and friends.
