Minnie Faye James Brayboy was born in Florence County on May 19, 1960 to the late Jesse James, Sr. and the late Almeta McKay James. She departed this earthly life on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
Minnie was affectionately called Faye by many friends and family.
Minnie was educated in the public schools of Florence County School District Two, graduating from Hannah Pamplico High School class of 1978. A woman of remarkable dedication and skill furthered her education and received an Associate’s Degree in Business from Columbia College, Columbia, SC.
Minnie Faye life was deeply rooted in her faith as a devoted member of Mill Branch AME Church. She found joy and fulfillment in worship and fellowship within her church family and served on The Women’s Missionary Society and Celestial Choir.
Minnie built a long and impactful career as a certified Surgical Technician at McLeod Regional Medical Center, where she served faithfully for over 35 years. Her work was a testament to her commitment to helping others and her tireless work ethic.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Minnie was a talented seamstress and a gifted florist, whose creativity and meticulous attention to detail brought beauty into the lives of all who knew her. Her creations were as vibrant and unique as her personality, a reflection of the love she poured into everything she touched.
Minnie Faye was preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved brother, Jesse James, Jr.
Those left to cherish her memories are her loving husband, Henry Brayboy; her loving daughters: Jessica Brayboy of Pamplico, SC, Brittany Brayboy of Columbia, SC, Barbara Shanise (Kyree James) Brayboy of Pamplico, SC, and Jakeira James of Atlanta, GA; five granddaughters, Constance, Kyah, Courtnie, Korryn, and Kamaiyah; six godsons, Kelley Bostick, Kenny Fleming, Kendrick Shird, Javary O’Neal, Titus Praylow, and Damari’ Hyman; and a host of brother in-laws, sister in-laws, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Minnie was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be remembered as a pillar of strength, love, and kindness—a woman whose gentle spirit and unwavering devotion to her family, friends, and community left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
Minnie Faye Brayboy’s legacy of love, faith, and service will live on through the countless lives she touched. She will be forever missed but never forgotten.
