Reverend Eddie Eugene Gregg, Sr., was born in Florence, South Carolina, on July 16, 1943, to Alex Gregg and Juanita Farmer Gregg Merritts. Reverend Gregg transitioned to his resting place at McLeod Regional Medical Center on September 2, 2023. Although our time was cut short, our hearts will forever be filled with joy and honor because we were graced with his presence for eighty (80) years.
Reverend Gregg attended Poynor High School and later studied at Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina, receiving a degree in Theology. He was a cement finisher for many years, later employed at Bethea Baptist Community Homes, and retired after thirty (30) years of dedicated service. In addition to being a fisher of men (Matthew 4:19), Reverend Gregg loved fishing.
Reverend Gregg received the gift of the Holy Ghost under the leadership of Elder Willie Mitchell, Progressive Church of Jesus Christ. Later, he joined Mount Olive Pentecostal Holiness Church under the leadership of Bishop R. Robinson, where he was ordained as an Elder. After receiving excellent teaching as an Elder, Reverend Gregg transitioned to The Southern Church of Jesus Christ (Apostolic) INC. to serve in the Christian ministry as an Elder at Saint Matthews Apostolic under the leadership of Bishop/Overseer Frank B. Saunders,. Upon the passing of the late Bishop R. Robinson, Reverend Gregg transitioned back to Mount Olive Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he became pastor and served in that capacity until his untimely passing.
He was a dedicated family man who loved his family. His wife for 62 years, Bobbie Jean, was the love of his life and best friend. He was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord; his last word before transitioning was “GLORY.”
Reverend Gregg was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Farmer Gregg Merritts; father, Alex Gregg; stepfather, Abraham Merritts; two sisters, Joan Bradley and Mary Alice Gregg; and great-grandson, Joshua McPherson.
