Ressie Davis

June 18, 1941 — April 25, 2024

Mrs. Ressie Sanders Davis, the daughter of the late William Sanders and the late Sallie Glover Sanders, was born June 18, 1942, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She exchanged time for eternity on Thursday, April 25, 2024, after a long illness at Southland Healthcare Center in Florence, South Carolina.

 

Mrs. Ressie received her formal education while attending Orangeburg County Schools. As a teenager, she moved to Melbourne, Florida, where she graduated high school, met and married her husband, the late Reverend Edward Lee Davis. This union was blessed with three sons, Bruce, Reverend Dr. Terry Davis and Gary. Years later, the Davis family moved to Far Rockaway Queens, New York.

 

Mrs. Ressie eventually moved back to South Carolina living in Orangeburg.. At an early age, she joined Granger Baptist Church in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Upon relocating to Orangeburg, South Carolina, she and her family recommitted their life to God and their membership to Granger Baptist Church. Her husband, the late Reverend Edward Lee Davis served as Assistant Pastor and their son, the late Reverend Dr. Terry Davis served in Ministerial capacities in Granger Baptist Church for several years before moving to Monessen, Pennsylvania, where she was a foster parent for many years.

 .

Mrs. Ressie always loved God and assisted her husband and son with their Ministry. She was a strong and loud soldier for the Lord. Finally , she moved back to South Carolina to be closer to her sisters and her only living son, Gary Davis.

 

Mrs. Ressie was preceded in death by her father and mother, William Sanders and Sallie Glover Sanders; her husband, Reverend Edward Lee Davis; two sons, Bruce Davis and Reverend Dr. Terry Davis; two sisters, Essie Murphy and Gladys Rush; three brothers, Thomas Sanders, William Sanders and Henry Sanders; one brother-in-law, Jeremiah Harmon; and two sisters-in-law, Lula Belle Davis and Geneva Davis.

 

Mrs. Ressie leaves behind to cherish her precious memories: a loving son, Gary (Gina) Davis of Florence, South Carolina; a daughter-in-law, Reverend Shelia Davis of Wilmington, Delaware; a grandson, Desmond (Valerie) Davis of Hornell, New York; a great granddaughter, Joy Davis of Hornell, New York; three step grandchildren, Ginnique Crews, Gaquan (Amber) Maize and Johaun Maize; three step great- grandchildren, Karlee Hudson, Kalyn Hudson and Ashton Maize; two devoted sisters, Ruby Harmon of Orangeburg, South Carolina and Lillie Mae (William) McCants of Orlando, Florida; a brother, Joe Sanders of Far Rockaway Queens, New York; three brothers-in-law, David Murphy of Orangeburg, South Carolina, JC Davis of Far Rockaway Queens, New York and David Davis of Conway, South Carolina; four sisters-in-law, Ester (James) Spain of Conway, South Carolina, Holland Wright of Conway, South Carolina, Lottie Mae Bellamy of Norfolk, Virginia and Betty Joe Sherman of Beaufort, South Carolina; and a host of nephews, nieces, foster children, other relatives and family like friends.
