Roberta Mazyck

October 29, 1942 — April 13, 2025

Roberta Mazyck, (affectionally called Plummie) left this world on April 13, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on October 29, 1942, in St. Stephens, South Carolina, Roberta lived a life rich in love, service, and faith.

 Roberta was the beloved daughter of the late Arthur and Beatrice Starling Mazyck. She was preceded in death by her dear brother, Frank Mazyck. Roberta’s family was her greatest treasure, and she is survived by her son, Horace Mazyck, who resides in Asheville, North Carolina. She is also survived by three devoted sisters: Vernell M. Starks of Greeleyville, SC, Artless McNeil of Florence, SC, and Collette (Marvin) July of Greeleyville, SC. Additionally, she leaves behind two brothers, Douglas (Roberta) Mazyck of Gray Court, SC and Elliott Mazyck of Columbia, SC, as well as one cherished sister-in-law, Mable Mazyck, of Salters, SC. She was also cherished by her circle of beloved and close friends, Maggie Mack, Maggie Barr, Verlette Richburg, Gertrude Evans and Evelyn Washington. Roberta's legacy extends to a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will remember her warmth and kindness.

 Roberta’s educational journey began in the Berkley County public school system, where she laid the foundation for her future. She continued her education at the New York City Secretarial Institute, which equipped her with skills that led to a fulfilling career. Roberta retired from the City of New York Harlem Hospital, where she served diligently as a purchasing agent. Her dedication and commitment to her work earned her numerous awards throughout her career, reflecting the impact she had on her colleagues and community.

At an early age, Roberta became a member of Holy Rock Baptist Church of Stephens, SC which ignited her lifelong commitment to faith and service. After moving to New York, she joined Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, where she continued to nurture her spiritual life. Eventually, Roberta returned to her roots and settled in Florence, SC, where she became an active member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church. Her contributions to the church included being an active missionary member and participating in the annual women’s day choir. Roberta's faith and community service were cornerstones of her life, and she inspired many through her unwavering commitment to helping others.

 In her leisure time, Roberta enjoyed many hobbies that brought her joy and fulfillment. Her love for music and community involvement was evident in her active role in church activities. She touched the lives of many through her kindness, generosity, and infectious spirit. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to McLeod Hospital for the excellent care provided to Roberta during her time of need. Your compassion and dedication did not go unnoticed. 

Roberta Mazyck will be deeply missed but will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us of the importance of family, faith, and community. May she rest in eternal peace.
