Ronald Calvin Rivers, age 56, departed this life on April 3, 2025, and went home to be with his Heavenly Father after a period of illness.
Ronald was born on November 16, 1968, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Proctor and Lillie Rivers. The family later relocated to Kingstree, South Carolina, where Ronald was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age.
He received his education in the Williamsburg County School System, where he shined both academically and athletically—excelling in basketball and baseball as a talented left-hander. After graduating from Kingstree High in 1987, Ronald proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he honorably served, including a tour during Operation Desert Storm.
Following his military service, Ronald was a long-distance truck driver and built a successful career as a corrections officer. He served in both Richland County, South Carolina, and Huntsville, Texas, before retiring in 2021 as a Lieutenant from the State Corrections Facility in Rosharon, Texas.
Affectionately known as “Ron” to friends, he was a quiet, intelligent, kind, and straightforward man. His strength, generosity, and thoughtfulness left a lasting impact on everyone he met. Ron was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone he met—truly selfless and deeply loved. His presence will be profoundly missed.
Ronald was preceded in death by his beloved grandmothers, Mary Rivers and Lillie Jackson.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Rashawn A. Rivers of Huntsville, TX; his father, Proctor Rivers of Kingstree, SC; his mother, Lillie Rivers of Florence, SC; his brother, Rodney Rivers of Florence, SC; his sister, Oneeka (Dwaine) Maynard of Little Rock, AR; his nephew, Dwaine Maynard II, and niece, Amari Maynard; aunts, Doretha Brown of Stamford, CT, Elaine Rivers of Hardeeville, SC, Betty Jackson of Nesmith, SC, and Ora Lee Fulton of Kingstree, SC; uncles Robert Jackson of Kingstree, SC, and Albert (Sandral) Jackson of Orangeburg, SC; along with a host of cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
Please keep the family of Ronald Calvin Rivers in your thoughts and prayers.
