Mr. Rufus Beckett was born September 13, 1952 in Marion, South Carolina to the late Howard Beckett and Annie Ruth Porter. He departed this earthly life on the afternoon of Sunday, December 8, 2024 at McLeod Hospice House of Florence South Carolina.
“Boy Boy” as he was affectionately called by all who knew and loved him.
Rufus attended the Public Schools of Marion County.
Rufus was a member of Wayside Progressive Church of Jesus under the leadership of late Pastor Earline Howard and Pastor Mary H. Cooks. He remained under the leadership of Pastor Dolores M. Smith and Overseer Bishop Robert L. Attaway until his short illness and sudden demise. He served on the usher board and male chorus. He had a passion for singing and anytime he was asked to sing he never said, No.
On December 24, 1982, Rufus was joined in martial bliss to Mary Louise Peoples and to this union two children were born.
Rufus was employed with South Eastern Steel Company in Florence, South Carolina for more than 20 years.
Rufus was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Beckett; parents, Howard Beckett and Annie Ruth Porter; his sister, Eva Ruth Parker Johnson; his brother, Howard Beckett “Junior”.
Rufus leaves to cherish his precious memories two daughters Bridget Beckett of the home and Brandi Beckett of Florence, South Carolina; two grandchildren who were the apples of his eye, Jurnee Beckett and Aden Beckett; one adopted grandson, Mathias Storm Randolph; one brother, Daniel Beckett and Cris Boyd of Hemingway, SC; one sister, Joyce McMichael of Fayetteville, NC; one Goddaughter, Melanie McMillan of Florence, SC; two special nieces, Chivonne Harley of Columbia, SC and Eva Waiters of Florence, SC; four special nephews, Ronald Randolph, Deardre McMillan, Frank Dixon and Maurice Porter; and a host of brother in-laws, sister in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Mr. Rufus “Boy Boy” Beckett, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother in-law, uncle, cousin, church member, co-worker and friend will always be remembered for his love for others and especially his grandchildren, his loyalty, his children and his kind heart, but most of all his love for God.
