Funeral service for Mr. Rufus Eugene Benjamin will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Refreshing Springs Family Worship Center, 2540 Twin Church Road, Timmonsville. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.
Mr. Rufus Eugene Benjamin, the son of Mrs. Martha Benjamin and the late Mr. Eugene Rufus Benjamin, was born June 19, 1961. He transitioned on Thursday, August 22, 2019.
Rufus was educated in the Florence County Public School Systems. He was employed with Honorage Nursing Center located in Florence, South Carolina, until his health declined.
Rufus was an outgoing, energetic and compassionate man, never meeting a stranger and always willing to lend a helping hand. His presence would light up a room and bring a smile to your face. He loved his family dearly and always made sure to let you know that he loved you whenever he talked to you. He was an avid sports fan and loved his Washington Redskins football team.
Rufus left to cherish his memories: his wife, Dorothy Benjamin of Darlington,South Carolina; two daughters, Monique Peguese of Florence, South Carolina and Christina Benjamin of Clinton, South Carolina; two stepdaughters; Andrea (James) Ross of Darlington, South Carolina and Erica Latrice Josey of Columbia, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Janiyah Ellis, Shakiyah Ellis, and Royal McWhite; three step-grandchildren, Honesty Ross, James Ross; and Donye’ Josey; his mother, Martha Benjamin of E7ngham, South Carolina;ten siblings, Catherine White of Florence, South Carolina, Doris (Randy) Benton of Darlington, South Carolina, Elaine Green of E7ngham, South Carolina, Angela (Curtis) Brooks of Florence, South Carolina, John (Shirley) Benjamin of E7ngham, South Carolina, Yvonne Benjamin of Florence, South Carolina, Arthur (Princess) Benjamin of Florence, South Carolina, Donna Walker of Florence, South Carolina, Yolanda (James) Windham of Florence, South Carolina and Tori (David) Dargan of Hartsville; twelve-in-laws, Leo (Anita) Josey of Pennsylvania, Janet Alford Moore and Mary Lee both of North Carolina, William (Eva Mae) Alford of Florence, South Carolina, Roosevelt Alford, James (Lisa) Alford, Lelia Williamson, Betty (Henry) Graham, Evelyn (Thomas) Robinson, Lillian (Wendell) Dixon all of Darlington, South Carolina, Connie (Marvin) Richards and Robert (Paula)Alford both of Connecticut; and ahost of uncles; aunts; nephews; nieces; other relatives; and friends.
The family will receive friends at 2433 Alligator Rd, Engham and 649 HeathwoodDr., Darlington.
