Mr. Thomas Valentine “Bug” Ellerbe, Jr., the son of the late Thomas Valentine Ellerbe, Sr. and Lurlia Ellerbe was born in Florence, South Carolina on July 22, 1967. He departed this life on August 12, 2024, after a short illness.
Thomas affectionately called “Bug” attended Wilson High School and was employed with Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3181 in Florence, South Carolina, until his health declined.
‘Bug,” a free spirit, loved sports, dancing and his family. He was a people’s person, never meeting a stranger.
“Bug” was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Valentine Ellerbe, Sr.; a sister, Norma Burgess Cole; and a girlfriend, Dorothy “Dot” Singletary.
“Bug” is survived by his son, Holden Sansbury of Florence, South Carolina; his mother, Lurlia Ellerbe of Florence, South Carolina; two sisters, Sharon Gordon and Latanya Richardson both of Florence, South Carolina; two special children raised as his own, Hakeem Mills of Charleston, South Carolina and Ciaira Mills of Florence, South Carolina; four aunts, Ruth A. Wilson, Martha Barr and Johnnie Mae Ellerbe all of Florence, South Carolina and Sarah Jackson of New York; one uncle, Morris (Evangelist Doretha) Smith of Florence, South Carolina; five nephews, Shawn (Michelle) Ellerbe Mark Ellerbe and James Richardson all of Florence, South Carolina and Anthony Holmes and Antwain Cole of Charleston, South Carolina; two nieces, Shameccia Ellerbe of Florence, South Carolina and Jasmeine Hill of Charleston, South Carolina; and a host of other relatives and friends.
